LANDSCAPE II
2014

A change of environment - from Madrid to a small village in the province of Guadalajara/Spain - left significant traces in the artist's creative process, profoundly modifying the paradigm of her work.

Since then, the landscape loses its function as a matrix and becomes the sole and exclusive protagonist, provoking a turn towards documentary realism in its different manifestations.

A conceptual structure of sound and image, as well as the dilation of time through an extended rhythm, allow her to immerse herself in the environment, creating documentaries that go beyond mere narration.

Weekly from my vegetable garden

2014 / 29 min. / 16:9 / Language: Spanish.
Premiere: Voces en off, Cruce arte y pensamiento, Madrid, 2015

Over a period of six months, from the beginning of May to the end of October, the artist follows the growing process of her vegetable garden through weekly stills.

Interspersed with filmed sequences, the usual work of preparing the soil and planting, watering and harvesting are mapped, as well as events of the year: late frosts until the beginning of June, damage caused by deer, the drought at the end of September and a violent fire that devastated a third of the garden.

The slow passage of time, the occasional crisp live sound of the harvest, the careful movement of the camera lens dipping inside the plants, the artist's hands picking the fruit, let the viewer experience sensual perceptions of touch and joy in the foreground.

This creates an audiovisual still life that extends the two-dimensional projection of the screen into the space of the room.

The Gorge
2012-14 / 16 min. / 16:9 / Language: Spanish
Premiere: Voces en off, Cruce arte y pensamiento, Madrid, 2015

Walking along the gorge of the Concha stream, refreshing yourself at a small fountain, leaning against a rock, accompanied by a flute composition imitating birdsong or an electroacoustic composition of the sound of the fountain, approaching step by step the area where a fire that burned about 65 hectares a short time before.

The traces left by the fire such as burnt plants and trees, shattered centenary olive trees, the whiteness of the ashes or the black panorama of a burnt field - all this awakens a certain sense of beauty within the destruction. This was in 2012.

In 2013, the same path is taken again along the gorge, but now under totally altered circumstances. Another fire - much more devastating than the previous one - ravaged an area of more than a thousand hectares and burnt everything in the vicinity of the village.

Dazed and still in shock, the camera lens no longer captures details, unable to zoom in. It just flies over without touching the devastation. The entire landscape becomes black and white, although recorded in colour, opening up an abyss that will take decades to heal.
