ConGioco Ensemble
In 1987 Ebba Rohweder co-founded and until 1999 was a member of the ConGioco Ensemble for CONTEMPORARY AND EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC. They develop thematic programmes, explore spatial concepts, use the entire auditorium as a stage and, as pioneers in the contemporary scene, regularly integrate IMPROVISATION into their concerts. They specialise in SCENIC MUSIC and performance, presenting musical theater, for example by John Cage, Vinko Globokar, Carola Bauckholt, Mauricio Kagel and Daniel Ott.
The ConGioco Ensemble focuses explicitly on the presentation of works by WOMEN COMPOSERS, giving numerous commissions to female composers, e.g. Viera Janarcekova, Carola Bauckholt, Stefanie Schweiger, Violeta Dinescu, Juliane Klein, Barbara Heller, Urla Kahl and Emily Zobel, performing programmes exclusively with compositions by women, for example in the Konzerthalle Düsseldorf and in the Hessischer Rundfunk Hall, broadcast on the radio programme, and portrait concerts in the presence of women composers, for example with Younghi Pagh-Paan, Tera de Marez Oyens and Viera Janarcekova.

They premiere a multitude of COMMISIONS written for the ensemble by composers. In 1997, together with composer Daniel Ott, they won the Composition Prize of the Berlin Senate for Science, Research and Culture.
The ConGioco Ensemble presented its programmes at NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS such as Warschauer Herbst, Poland, Tage der Frauen Musik, Weimar and the 4th International Musica rara Festival, Erfurt, as well as in consecutive years in concert series such as BKA Unerhörte Musik and Kunstschiff ANNA, both in Berlin. Furthermore the concerts of the ConGioco Ensemble have been presented in several RADIO AND TELEVISION programmes, e.g. by the Hessischer Rundfunk Kassel and ZDF/arte.
PRESS-CLIPPINGS
"... an ensemble of magnificent musicians have come together here, who through a very solid technique and a rich variety of interpretative forms have fully convinced...". (WZ Düsseldorf)
"...the ConGioco Ensemble's performance of works by contemporary female composers was on an excellent technical level. A dizzying variety of techniques, their powerful emotional force and mastery of the acoustic possibilities of their instruments should be highlighted" (FAZ Frankfurt).
"...they are excellent musicians who also have a dazzling command of the technique of their instruments. Their performance was an impressive and convincing demonstration in favour of contemporary music. Much applause for the likeable young artists". (Rheinsche Post)
"...the six plethoric musicians call their ensemble ConGioco and this is a goal clearly achieved: with playfulness. This characterises both the approach and the result: All theatre? they ask in their current programme at the Berliner Kabarett Anstalt. A small panopticon, irresistibly staged by specialists ..."
